Day 1

We're here and alive, and Europe is beautiful! We flew to Germany on Sunday from Seattle and arrived in Munich early Monday morning. Essentially Sunday never existed in my book, and side note: someone really needs to create a time travel machine so I never have to experience 13+ hours of being on a plane. I was not a happy camper. But I feel like this being my first time having jet lag and coping with a large time difference gap I'm handling it well. Eric and I made a deal that once we landed we would have a very short nap and stay awake until at least 9 o'clock that night. We made it to 9:15 and woke up bright and early this morning at 6AM. In just 24 hours we have already explored so much history and beautiful scenery: Marienplatz, Feldherrnhalle, Hofgarten, Theatinerkirche, Frauenkirche, Englischer Garten (mental note, nudity is apparently welcomed), Ludwigstrasse (which included Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Ludwigskirche, Siegestor, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München), Asamkirche, Münchner Residenz, Prinz-Carl-Palais, Haus der Kunst. Yes, my feet are killing me! As a pat on the back to me for exploring so much, somehow figuring out the transit system here, and walking around six hours straight I'm taking it easy today, editing photos, eating some good bread, resting, reading, anything that involves sitting really. Eric is currently at work just outside of town, so proud of him! It's hard adjusting to a whole new culture, and not really understanding the language (and when I say not really I mean none what so ever). We got yelled at yesterday when we tried to sit down outside of a cafe (at least I think she was yelling). It was upsetting but I'm telling myself she was talking to the people behind us...
The people are beautiful, fashionable, talk SUPER fast. I remember everyone saying that the fashion in Europe is different than America but they couldn't really explain how. I now understand and currently stick out like a sore thumb. Everyone here in Germany, you are rockin' it.
Okay, I'm off to take a quick nap. I'm sure I'm forgetting so much but I figure I have a few weeks of Germany left to share more!! If you know of any hidden gems, have food / restaurant recommendations let me know by emailing me or leaving comments below!!

  14. Easily one of my favourite places on this earth. I was in Munich in December and it was absolutely covered in snow and beautiful Christmas markets. I love the depth of history there is to uncover about the place.

    Enjoy it.

    Love from South Africa

  16. You know I'm going to be living vicariously through you during your whole trip, right? :) I'm already so jealous. Look at the pictures!

Traveling always sounds so glamorous because nobody ever mentions the stuffy airports, the plane rides, the heavy luggage, or the jetlag but it sounds like you're handling it all like a champ. Keep it up, lady. Can't wait to hear more!

  17. I stop checking your blog out for a while and now you're in Europe?! Haha. I haven't really been commenting lately, I've been a bad blogger :P

Looks like so much fun though! It's hard to imagine a 13-hour plane ride, because the longest for me was only 4 hours (I did take a 16 hour plane ride before, but I was too young to remember). I bet it's worth it though! The architecture is so pretty.

  36. Ich liebe Munchen! Germany is a great place, great people, great culture. One thing we did when we were in Munich was the Mike's Bike Tour. You ride a bike around Munich and hit the hot and not so hot spots. It was great and our tour guide was American (or spoke english). Check them out ... http://www.mikesbiketours.com/munich/

  46. phew, getting there is always the hard part, huh? sitting on an airplane and realizing that everyone around you is coughing and your feet are swelling is no bueno. and then to top it off, your body is like, 'hey you should be sleeping right now!' when you arrive in the afternoon. glad you arrived safely though and it sounds like you are already enjoying it! my biggest piece of travel advice is just remember whenever something frustrates you about the process/day, that you're in MUNICH. you're frustrated, but you're frustrated in Munich. we had a few of those moments on our Switzerland trip and it helped put things in perspective :)
