blonde > brunette?

hello my lovelies! this is a very life changing post (cue the sarcasm), so keep reading. around this time every year i go through this pain staking question...what should i do with my hair? there is just something about the fall and winter season that just calls for a change in color, you know? i literally have been every color under the sun (okay, not literally, but it has been a lot). the typical choices usually revolve around blonde or brunette. but with pinterest and all it's glory and inspiration, there is now a third in the running, ombre. now, this is where you come in.
all hands on deck. i need all of your brilliant opinions on the matter at hand - stay with blonde, switch it up with brown, or take a risk and try something new with the ombre? *of course, i feel like the ombre will naturally start take affect in just a few short weeks due to my lovely roots and their eagerness to make an appearance. just saying....

  1. I think I'm staying away from the hair color for a while, as tempting as it is. I want to get back to my natural color (and save some money while I'm at it!) I haven't seen you as a brunette, but you do look fantastic as a blonde! Ombre might be interesting. I totally had that going on in high school by accident. haha

  2. Had all 3.. Was blonde and then went in to brunette then hot low highlights for the Ombre look and now for Fall went to an all brow color.. Which is rare cause for Fall i usually go lighter.. I think the Ombre is out already but not to sure.. It was nice i liked it but sometimes felt unwashed haha Im def digging the Brunette this season or even with a lil bit of red is in now too.. So which ever u choose will look great!!

  4. OMBRE! If I had stronger hair I'd do it in a second! You'd look adorable with it :) In fact I just bought Jessica Simpson hair extensions to achieve that look. Hopefully it works okay!

  5. Well, you will look gorgeous any way! But I think OMBRE will look awesome!! xo

  6. Haha, I am TOTALLY in the same boat! I called to schedule a hair appointment yesterday and then hung up while it was ringing because I'm still so indecisive! Here are my thoughts on the matter...

Blonde is beautiful to me no matter what. It's just the most upkeep and that can be aggravating.

Brown scares me, personally, because I've never had dark hair. But it does look so good on many people with lighter complexion and eyes. If you've done it before, did you like it? That could be the answer to your question.

The only draw back to Ombre is that it looks horrendous on straight hair (in my opinion). Wavy, like pictured above, looks super earthy and great.

Sorry for the length, but I'm thinking through this myself! Sooo glad I could help you (or me) out! :)

  7. i think you would look great with all three but ombre would be so so cool, i have always wanted to do that!!!

  8. i think i'm feeling the ombre. try something new!!

  9. I vote ombre! It's worth a shot. Hair is hair and if it doesn't work out you can just dye it again easy peasy! I'm sure you'll look pretty no matter what you do.

  11. It's so funny you posted about this because I have been thinking the same thing. I went brunette for the first time a few months ago and love it. They great thing about it as well is now I am getting an ombre look without having to pay for it. I say go brunette and let it grow out.

  14. change for the fall season is always fun - i love you blonde but i'd definitely go brunette over ombre and let then it grow into that :)

  15. I say brunette. Thanks for your comment! It was sweet...and I love your little "love birds" description! So cute.

  16. Ombre could look great, and would be money saving....
I do like the blonde though!
I won't cange my hair right now, since I am just trying to grow it back right now.
I will stay away from experiments and everything that could damage my hair.

  18. I know what you mean! I get the urge to change my hair color, too. But then I look at pictures of me with brown hair and remember that I look so much better blonde. I'm a big fan of the ombre - love the dirty blonde color. That's what I stick with now! :)

  20. I think you look great with blonde hair but the ombre is so cute too! I might change it up to the ombre if I was you?!

  21. I'll admit, I went to get my hair done today with the intentions of going darker, but ended up getting the same blonde I always do. I'd say, why not get the best of both worlds and go for the ombre!

  22. I have this exact blonde picture on my Pinterest! I am obsessed! But, for the sake of the season, I think you should go with ombre. That's what I will be doing, and then transititioning into blonde.

I'm excited to see what you do!

  24. I love all 3 looks... I am just finally at my natural color and so afraid to do anything with it. I've been blonde, I've been red, I've been extremly brunette... and now i'm somehow a combo of all 3!

  26. I love this new Ombre thing! Defintely my choice!!

  27. Girl, stay blond. Blonde is the way to go. If you can pull off blonde hair, never settle for anything less. I am a brunette, I LOVE my hair and could never pull off any other color (I've never dyed it!) but anytime I've seen beautiful blonde hair get dyed brown, it always feels like a step down from the blonde that they once had.

And I say no to ombre hair.I don't really understand all of the fuss about it! I honestly think Ombre hair should be called recession hair...because dang, girl's got roots.

  28. the brown is PERFECT for fall/winter! ;-) i like darker hair in the winter. THat's why i just dyed mine dark brown with red highlights. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. How about a blonde you haven't been? I guess redhead would be completely out..but its fall..

    ReplyDelete
  30. Brown is so tempting in fall, but I love the look of blonde hair winter through summer, and you can never truly get your "blonde-blonde" hair back after going brown. Plus, blonde hair and red lipstick is excellent for every season :)

  31. Hi TJ! Wanted to stop by & spread the love after you visited my blog today. Thanks BTW! I just love "seeing" new faces around my tiny little fledgling blog. I don't think I've been around enough to comment on the hair color debate but...I sort of like going lighter in the fall/winter just because it's opposite of what everyone else seems to do. Just my two cents.

I'm in Salt Lake, is that where you guys live too? (sorry if that's obvious..I read through a couple posts & saw Seattle & Salt Lake so I wasn't sure where you guys are currently). Either way, it's so fun connecting with other Utah-connected bloggers! Thanks again for stopping by & commenting :o)

  32. So I'm just like you. And around winter I always want to change my hair color! But every time I go brunette, I always miss my blonde. And when I'm blonde I long to be a brunette, but know I"ll miss the blonde. So i just stick with the blonde and lets the brunettes do their thing and watch in envy just hoping they are looking at my blonde doing the same thing. As for the ombre, I'm not a fan, just because that's what my hair does when I DON'T want it to. *Dang roots coming in*. So sometimes it looks weird on girls because you can't tell if it is on purpose or accident. Regardless, I think you can pull any of the 3 off, but I choose blonde.

    ReplyDelete
  33. your blonde is beautiful but ombre sounds fun! I have wanted to try it forever but I am too scared!!! We should just do it while it's still in style haha!

    ReplyDelete
  34. you would look great with any of the above, i go through the same thing this time of year, and i'm telling you ombre is where it's at, the best of both worlds, and cheaper salon visits!

    ReplyDelete
  35. i think ombre would be fun! i've never dyed my hair.. but i'd like to go ombre if i did. actually that's not completely true.. i once tried to dye my hair jet black on my own. no one noticed because my hair is super dark brown haha

    ReplyDelete
  36. No ombre please. It looks....I have nothing nice to say about it. Stick to what is most natural.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think brown would be fun...whatever you decide though you'll look gorgeous!

  38. Brunette looks more natural, healthier (no bleach) and is cheaper BUT you look great with blonde hair!! You have a pretty face so I'm sure that any color would look good on you.

I colored my hair jet black about a month ago on a whim...I think it makes my hair look healthier but I miss my brown hair sometimes.

Thanks for the well wishes to my bro in Afghanistan!

  39. I do the same thing. Every summer I go blonde... then back to brown. This fall i went red. It's fun and I love it. I also love the first hair picture... I have it pinned. I hope one day my hair looks like that!

  43. OMBRE 100% ! Although, I'd watch tutorials and buy a drug store box and do it yourself ! Don't wait for your roots to grow out, it takes WAY to long and you have that awkward period where there's like 4 inches of roots. It's taken my hair about a year to grow out to below my ear so don't wait !

  44. If I were to dye my hair (I never have. First my mother forbade it, now my husband...) I would do the whole light in the summer dark in the winter. So my bot is go brown.

  45. ombre, BUT make sure you go somewhere where they KNOW what that is. one time i was getting color done and the hairdresser next to me asked her client, "ombre... so you like, want it to look like you have dark roots that you haven't gotten done in a while?"

i can't afford the constant coloring anymore, but i know all about that need-a-hair-change-itch. gets me all the time. that's why i gave myself a haircut the other day!

  46. Ahhh! I need your help with that decision too- my appointment is on saturday. I seriously can't decide. I've never been anything but blonde.... anything will be a change. So nerve racking. Truthfully, I love your hair blonde. However, no doubt would you make a gorgeous brunette. My vote is go BRUNETTE for fall. Ombre, is kind of on it's way out already. Anything you do will be beautiful! xoxo

  47. well...being a brunette i will always go with that answer.

    but i like you blonde.

and you could TOTALLY pull ombre...so really any of the three will work!

    k i'm not very helpful.

  60. Hi just found u thru Cupcakes & Cashmere, decided to take a peek at your blog & love it! I love the ombre look, but then again, if your roots start growing in, in say, a month, u'll get the ombre look anyways. So blonde? Or a darker blonde? so when ur roots grow in it still looks nice... btw: I love ur blog & followed! :) Would you pass by my blog & say hi, maybe follow? I just started my fb page since so many were requesting one, so it would be great if you passed by & liked it, I'd be glad to like urs back if you have one! 65. I love the ombre look. My hair has been ombre for a long time now, but it's been subtle. I think that's what is so great about it, if you have it done really well, it looks natural and effortless, and its so low maintenance. I have an appointment for Nov. First to get the ends really brighten up the ends, like this! http://pinterest.com/pin/297383398/ Good luck!
