This week's hairspiration is all about getting that hair off your neck, because it's SUMMER TIME BABY! It reached up to 80 degrees here in Seattle. It was magical but miserably hot all at the same time. In hopes of fighting the urge to chop off all my hair this season I decided to do a little "pinterest research" for some quick and easy up do's instead. Introducing the criss cross braided bun.

What do you think? Would you rock this hairstyle? Let me know if you try this look out by tagging me on Instagram (@tanyajtaylor).

Also, a little birthday shout out to that handsome husband of mine. 26 looks good on you! ;)

Now onto the tutorial!
When to wear: Perfect for those on the go Summer heat days, or a night out on the town. You could even wear this look to a wedding, bridal shower, baby shower, whatever your Summer brings you!

1. Separate hair into middle part.
2. Taking two inch sections in the front, separate, and gather rest of hair to the back of neck.
3. Take one section and create a simple braid. Make sure to braid in a backwards motion so as the braid lays flat against head.
4. Repeat to section two.
5. Gather remaining hair.
6. Create messy and sleek bun (depending upon the occasion).
7. Take one braid, bring it to opposite side and wrap around bun. Pin braid into place.
8. Repeat to section two. Use as many bobbi pins as necessary.

With the Summer season officially here, my entire mindset has been devoted to warm activities and wanderlust traveling. I hope to mark off some new places to explore and stepping out of our comfort zone. We already checked off glass blowing the other day. Make sure to wear thin layers, it gets HOT in there!

Other things I hope to accomplish...

DIY // Mini piñatas. Tissue paper banner. American flag.
Eating // Popsicles and watermelon.
Traveling // Road trip & camping along the coast. Ferry rides to Orcas Island. Weekend trip to Vancouver.
Needing // Birkenstock sandals.
Wearing // Flowy tops, distressed jeans and comfy sandals.
Learning // To work with flowers. I've been so inspired by all the lovely florists I follow on Instagram.
Practicing // Patience, and accepting that not everything goes according to plan.
Listening // To "Ultraviolence" by Lana del Rey.
Reading // Looking for Alaska. I'm on a John Green kick.
Dreaming // Of Europe.

What are you looking forward to this Summer?

Introducing Emilie Ann from Sincerely, T&E!

NAME: Emilie Woodhead

AGE: 21

LOCATION: Salt Lake City

CAREER: I am a full time wedding photographer! I am absolutely in love with my job and with capturing people's love for each other! I get to meet so many new people and have so much fun while doing something I'm very passionate about. I also photograph my travels, adventures, and fine art portraits for my personal work! You can find my website at Emilie Ann Photography for more details!

... A TYPICAL DAY: A typical day for me involves waking up and either going to the gym or trying some new workout I saw on pinterest! Then the rest of the day would include editing photo shoots, answering emails, and either heading to photograph a wedding or an engagement or bridal shoot! In my free time I'm obsessed with the outdoors so I would probably either go on a hike or just take my camera out to the mountains to capture some photos. Other than that I would just chill with my family and sweetheart and watch a movie or just hangout around the house or around town *cough* or the mall *cough*. I have a slight obsession with clothes.

OUTSIDE OF WORK: Outside of work I attend Utah Valley University and am majoring in Art and Visual Communications! I'm graduating Spring 2015! Wahoo! I'm obsessed with branding and helping people follow their own business dreams. One day I hope to be able to hold workshops for photographers and become a motivational speaker. I'm an avid believer in Mexican food, beanies, and thrift shops and am always checking the local spots for cool furniture or treasures. I spend most of my time with my family and my love Tyler! I'm definitely a life-enthusiast and free spirited person who is always up for anything and for just living life to the fullest.

NEXT BIG PLANS: This Summer is a chalk-full of weddings that I'm so excited to photograph! And after finishing up school this year I'm hoping to travel to Europe to see the art I've been studying for the past 2 years!

SUMMER STAPLE: The Kimono!! Seriously, I have multiple kimonos and they are just so flowy and pretty! They're so easy to just throw on top of a t-shirt or tank top to dress it up a bit and they are so comfy!! I can't get enough of them!

Who says the day of love only comes one day a year. You may recognize this tee from past posts and instagram shots. I thought it was about time that it had a post of its own, in all its glory. One of my favorite things about this tee is that it's something simple that you could easily wear during the day or dress up for a night out on the town! I'm all about the versatility. Today I decided to dress it down in what Eric dubbed my "skater vibe". High pony and vans all the way! How would you dress this tee?

With the start of any new season, it's a great time to re-evaluate the things our skin needs to take on the changing natural elements. The first step for me is changing up my skin care routine, so of course I was so excited to work with California Naturel when they reached out to me to test out their new products. Based out of Sausalito, California, California Naturel craft premium natural skin care using the purest, most effective ingredients found in nature, taking to heart the sensory experience by crafting textures and floral scents. One of my favorite things about the California Naturel products is that I felt like I just stepped out of a spa out by the sea after every use. The smell alone is so calming, especially right before you head off to bed. Another favorite is that after using the cleaning gel, it didn't leave my face feeling dry like most products have in the past. Cheers to those morning and night routines that keep us feeling fresh and clean!
*Something to note: It's important to mention that every product works differently dependent upon their skin type. I typically have normal to oily skin.

Pulling hair out of face and neck area, start with a fresh "palette".
Splash face with cool water to wake up the face.
Taking the Gentle Cleansing Gel, apply small amount onto hand and gently massage over face and neck.
Remove with warm water. Dry, with clean towel, by lightly patting the face.

Using the Nourishing Cream, pump bottle once to release the cream into hands.
Massage in slow, small circles on face.
Use left overs to massage onto neck.
*I love that this moisturizer doesn't leave your face feeling sticky afterwords!!

3. SPF
It is always important to use SPF every day, even here in Seattle. Your older self will thank you.
Using Sunscreen SPF 30, apply liberally at least 15 minutes before sun expose. Don't forget to take it along with you to reapply throughout the day!

Don't forget about those kissable lips.
Apply the Lip Balm SPF 8 throughout the day to keep lips silky smooth and safe from sun damage.
*I loved that this lip balm stays on longer (even through meals) and also gives a little bit of a shine and color!

I love that with new seasons means a new take on make-up! Although I usually opt for a fresh, no fuss face during the summer heat I came across this look the other day and just couldn't get it out of my head. What a perfect look for that Summer night out on the town, or spicing up your go-to cat eye.
Would you ever rock this look?

one / two / three / four / five / six

I'm looking out the window right now to a beautiful scene of pouring rain. What happened to all that pretty sunshine? Oh Seattle, you are such a tease. Dreaming of Summer things this rainy day: sun kissed hair, yummy ice cream, flowers in a field, and loose layers. What are you looking forward to this Summer?

I know Memorial Day was a few weeks back, but I wanted to make sure to document this little moment we had up in the beautiful mountains of Wallace, Idaho. Our good friends from Utah came up to visit with us, their first time up North, and it was so fun seeing them experience the beautiful outdoors for the first time! Thanks to my awesome Father-in-law for capturing most of these little moments!

Make sure to see past Wallace adventures here, here and here.

These two pictures make me happier than you will every know! And Eric's face in the second one... no words.
Don't worry. I am fully aware of how bad my roots have gotten. Let's just skip over that issue for the mean time.
Love these cuties!! Don't move to Virginia!
Socks and sandals are coming back in style (if they ever were in the first place). No shame!

This week's hairspiration is inspired by 'Wedding Season'. With the start of summer we can always count on receiving one thing in the mail, wedding invitations! With weddings of our own that we are attending this summer, I thought what better than to share a few fun looks you can try out for yourselves!
Leave your favorite look in the comment section below! Let me know if you try any of these hairstyles out at an upcoming wedding, or just for fun, by tagging me on Instagram (@tanyajtaylor).

Now onto the tutorials!

When to wear: This look would be perfect for that black tie, elegant wedding.
TO CREATE: Brush through hair and create a middle part. Take your favorite headband and place it a half inch above the hairline or wherever you feel most comfortable. Separate remaining hair into three equal sections. Starting on the right side, twist hair away from face and roll into headband. Take back section and loosely twist and roll into headband. Take the left section, twist hair away from face and role into headband. You want the look to be effortless and a little messy. Use bobbi pins to hold into place if necessary.

When to wear: This would be a perfect look for an outdoor wedding.
TO CREATE: Brush through hair and create a deep side part. Starting about a half inch above your ears, loosely gather the top half of hair, bringing to one side, and create a side fishtail braid. Once secured with a small elastic, use fingers to pull fishtail braid apart, giving it that messy, effortless look. Using a small section of hair from the bottom of elastic, wrap around to hide the elastic for a fun twist. To view this hairstyle from the back, click here.

When to wear: This would be a perfect look for a black tie, elegant wedding or beach wedding.
TO CREATE: Brush through hair and create a deep side part. Taking a two inch section from the front, loosely create a dutch braid and secure with a small elastic. Taking another two inch section behind that, loosely create a fishtail braid or regular braid (whatever your fancy) and secure with a small elastic. Bring both braids back and secure with bobbi pins. Gather remaining hair to the same side as braids and create a messy bun, securing with hair tie.

When to wear: This is a classic look fit for any occasion.
TO CREATE: Brush through hair and create a middle part. Taking a two inch section from front on the right side, create a regular braid and secure with a small elastic. Repeat on left side. Taking the right braid, loosely bring to the other side and secure with bobbi pins. Take the left braid, repeat step. Tuck ends underneath braids, securing with bobbi pins if needed. *This look varies depending on how tight or loose you braid your hair.

Simplifying can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It can apply to many aspects of our lives: relationships, our homes, the commitments we make, social media. Ultimately, we can all agree that the underlying goal of simplifying is to make life easier. For the past few weeks I made a conscious decision to take a little breather from blogging. We all have heard the downfalls of this amazing blogosphere, the thief of comparison. There are so many amazing bloggers out there that it is hard to not compare yourself to them and their successes. I found myself turning in to such a negative person. Spending way too much of my time trying to make myself and my blog like theres and loosing my own voice as a writer. With my little break from blogging I also decided to take a little breather from other aspects of my life I found to be a "waste of time", mainly television. Lucky for me, my little break came right when a lot of my favorite shows were wrapping up for the season, but it still felt amazing to not have the TV on. Instead I got to discover new music, read lots of new books (and old favorites), riding my bike around the city, discovering new restaurants, focusing more on my photography, doing some DIY projects I've had on the back burner, and even cooking up some new recipes.  Safe to say this little break of mine has turned out to be one of the best decisions I made for myself. I do want to apologize, however, for leaving you all high and dry. Perhaps I should have made a little announcement on the blog, but to be honest I just didn't have it in me at the time to explain. And I didn't want to be all cryptic and up and disappear. But the good news is, I'M BACK, and feeling so refreshed!

With a new outlook and rested soul, I thought I'd share a few of my tips to help simplify your life! I promise, they work!! xx

This could be as simple as cleaning out that junk drawer (you know we all have one) that has accumulated over the years, going through your closet and getting rid of those pieces you've unnecessarily held on to, or even going through your purse and taking out those old recites, movie stubs, make-up, what have you! Having less clutter in your life can give you a refreshed feeling of just being free.

If you're anything like me then the question "What's for dinner?" automatically sends that anxiety rising. After getting married I wanted to be that great wife who has an amazing dinner on the table each night when her husband gets home. Cooking is really not my favorite activity. *Note to self: If I ever become rich, a personal chef is numero uno.* Cue Pinterest! Thanks to "pinning" I've been getting better at making weekly meal plans. Pick 3 to 4 simple meals you found off Pinterest, stock up at your local grocery store and make those simple and delicious meals whichever night you had planned. Don't forget, left overs are your friend! I promise you, your man won't mind eating the same thing 2 nights in a row.

This sounds simple, but it works! I love waking up first thing, writing out my tasks for the day and checking them off, one by one, as I go! It helps you keep your day organized and on track! This planner will become your best friend!

The minute you step through your door, you are home and no more work! Wahoo! When it's time for bed put your phone away! This is time for you to be by yourself and reflect on your day. There is no need for you to be submersing yourself in someone else's life right before you go to bed. Establishing these types of boundaries will help keep you in the moment.

Just do it! I can't tell you how many times I could have saved myself from tears and frustration if I had only just asked for help. People want to help you, remember that!

What tips have you found that help you create a simpler life? Share your thoughts below!!

With all of the sunshine Seattle has been having, and Summer adventures being planned, all I have on my mind lately is a brand new wardrobe.
