Hairspiration

Today's 'hairspiration' of the week inspired from my Pinterest board is the half braided up-do. Such a sophisticated look you could wear anywhere. Down below you will find a helpful tutorial to help you achieve this look. Would you wear this hairstyle?

Now onto the tutorial!

.. Half Braided Up-Do ..

STEP ONE: Brush through hair and create a part that works for you. I did my signature side part.
STEP TWO: Take two small sections from the front on the right and left. Push the rest of hair behind shoulders.
STEP THREE: Fishtail braid the first section. Secure with small hair tie.
STEP FOUR: Fishtail braid the second section. Secure with second small hair tie.
STEP FIVE: Prepare the two made braids to crisscross.
STEP SIX: Take first braid, lay horizontal bringing to opposite side, and pin down with bobbi pin an inch behind ear.
STEP SEVEN: Take second braid, crisscross on top of first braid, pinning down with bobbi pin an inch behind ear.
STEP EIGHT: Use as many bobbi pins as needed to help further secure your up-do. Tuck end pieces underneath braids near ear. Secure with bobbi pins, and there you have it!!

Twenty-Six

Today is my 26th birthday, and obviously one of my favorite days of the year! I consider myself a grateful person, but it's not often that I take the time to truly appreciate my life and the people in it. Eric, my best friend and love, thank you for making me feel special and bringing a smile to my face every single day. Mom, thank you for bringing me into this world all those years ago. The older I get the more I appreciate everything you have done for me. You are a warrior princess. To my best friends, you know who you are, thanks for being the ones to share with me every happy moment and shoulder to cry on. I've learned a lot in these twenty-six years, but I can't wait to see what else is in store. I have a feeling 26 is going to be epic! Happy birthday to me, and happy Monday everyone!! xx

Little Lady - Laicie Heeley

Introducing Laicie Heeley from A Thousand Threads!

... a little introduction:
Hi I'm Laicie! My guy is Mark and our littles are Austin (two legs) and Lennon (four). I grew up in Oregon and still call it home, but we live happily in Maryland... and I have to admit, there are a lot of pretty great things about this state too. The town we live in is full of family farms, wide-open spaces, and great local food - all the things we love, and love to share.

How would you describe your blog?
A Thousand Threads is a blog about building a meaningful life. It's about enjoying the simpler things like food and time with family and friends. And of course, it's about our life together. Mark does most of the photography on the blog, and I do the writing. It's truly our passion project, and I hope that shows.

What do you do for a living?
I work at a think tank in DC on national security issues related to things like nuclear weapons in Iran and the Defense budget in Congress. An average day ranges anywhere from briefing the press on the latest news to writing and publishing articles to meeting with members of Congress and the administration about my work. It's exciting to live and work in DC, but it's also nice to go back home to somewhere with a little slower pace.

What do you do outside of work?
I love the outdoors. We spend as much time as we can hiking, running, biking, backpacking, and just generally staying active. And I love music and movies and books. If I could, I'd spend all day every day reading, writing and wandering around in the sun.

Staple piece?
I'm such a t-shirt girl. There's nothing better than a really nice fitting t-shirt, or one with a story. I'll admit I'm a little bit of a t-shirt hoarder. The ones with the stories are full of holes, but I just love them even more.

Hairspiration

Today's 'hairspiration' of the week inspired from my Pinterest board are the beach wave curls. Such a simple look to rock on those casual days. How to get this look: Take a shower at night and let hair air dry. Loosely braid your hair before going to sleep. Wake up and give it a good shake. Twist front pieces of hair around fingers to give more of a curl.

Little Lady - Kerri Taylor

Introducing Kerri Taylor of the Cheshire Kat Blog!

... a little introduction:
Snarky, lovable, artistic, lover of wine and all things pop culture. I guess those would be just some of the words I'd use to describe myself. I mean really, it shouldn't be so hard to think of things - it isn't an online dating profile (although I do find those difficult to write)...moving on. I'm from a small town in PA, but moved to Orlando permanently in 2005 and haven't looked back since. Kat is just one of my nicknames and since Alice in Wonderland is one of my absolute favorites - I put two and two together to form my catchy blog name. My "about the kat" section on the blog goes into a little more detail if you're up for reading more.

How would you describe your blog?
I would describe my blog as simply an extension of me. I write about everything from the light and fun and b*tchy to the deep and philosophical. Because sometimes a girl just has to write it all out. I've been a writer since the beginning of time and I love having my little blog as a space to share that writing (and my artwork) as well as a little recording of my life.

What do you do for a living?
I have a corporate job in marketing for a vacation ownership company. Sound complex? Nah. I have worked here for forever and have an amazing team (and boss - jackpot) that make it so much fun. I get to travel on occasion (don't even try to hit me up for discounts unless I totally heart you) and kind of make my own schedule.

What do you do outside of work?
I love to paint and draw. Love my yoga, which I try to do as much as possible (although could be more). Food, wine, bourbon (not at the same time), travel, write, explore. I could go on...

Staple piece?
Oh gosh. Black anything? I'm such a jeans and tshirt girl. I'd compare my style to the gorg Jen Aniston. Basic and classic. I shop mostly at J.Crew if that's any indication of how I will look on any given day. Give me matchsticks and a simple shirt from there and I'm a happy girl.

Continuing on with my 'hairspiration' of the week inspired from my Pinterest board is the milkbraids. After cutting 7 inches off my hair, it's finally long enough to rock the braids again. Oh how I've missed you. Would you rock this hairstyle? What is your favorite pinterest look of the moment? Share in the comment section below!

Little trinkets

This weekend has been one of the busiest, moving in to our new place. Packing, unpacking. We still have a lot of things left to do. Grocery shopping, buying new furniture, finding space for those little trinkets above. Slowly but surely this new space of ours is feeling like home. More pictures to come!
