EVERGLADES

12/3/13

We were so lucky to have family come out and visit us here in Florida during the Thanksgiving holiday! We've been holding off doing lots of touristy things until Eric's parents got here, like seeing the Everglades. Contrary to what people say about Florida, we haven't seen one alligator on the side of the road or walking through the Target parking lot (trust me, we look for them). So when we scheduled a trip to the Everglades I was excited to get my gator on, and boy were we not disappointed. We decided to rent some bikes and do a 15 mile loop around Shark Valley. The day was beautiful and muggy, and I definitely regret doing a leg workout the day before, but it was SO much fun!

^^ Pretty, pretty! Made it to the Observation Tower, the halfway point of our 15 mile journey. ^^

^^ Ignore this picture, Mom... Object in mirror is definitely closer then it appears (and bigger too! Six feet bigger to be precise)! ^^

I was expecting the everglades to be one giant swamp, but this place was absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to head back and do the airboat tours!

Next up, NASA!

I remember our family trip to the Everglades in middle school... my brother's arms were swollen with mosquito bites, I turned bright red from a weird DEET & chlorine reaction, and my dad ate moldy food from the convenience store. We left the next day before doing anything actually fun.... Glad your trip was more fun than mine :)

  90. Wow, awesome pictures TJ! I didn't realize you lived in Florida! I love here too!! But i've never been down to the Everglades. But I have seen my fair share of Alligators. Actually just a couple weeks ago, my mom and I were driving home and NO JOKE on the side of the road was an Alligator just walking along doin' its thang. You would think I wouldn't be surprised and would just smile and wave at it, but no mom and I screamed our butts off and had to make a U turn to go look at it again. Oh the joys of being a floridian...
