Now that it's officially March, I can finally say that by next month the mister and I will be living in Munich for a few weeks. No words can express my excitement, it almost doesn't feel real. I've never been anywhere before, especially Europe. My passport is updated and ready to be stamped! So now it's your turn to help me out! As the date quickly approaches we are trying to plan out all the fun things we should do and see in our free time. Do you have any suggestions for us! Give us your Europe knowledge!!!
And to my German readers, lets be friends so I'll have someone to hang out with while Eric is busy at work during the week days!
Hallo Deutschland!

I'm not from Germany but I do live in the Netherlands, so Europe! I don't know what to tell you to go see.. do expect rain at any moment, I have to carry an umbrella with me all the time where I live.

That's so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh Welcome to Europe!! Remember warm clothes and Natashja said make sure you have an umberella at ALL times! You should definitely pop over to the UK or Paris if you have a spare weekend. Im in the UK but in Munich there is lots to see and do, there's a huge daily market, the residence palace, museums and an English garden. Beer halls of course and lots of historic buildings. Hope you enjoy! If you do make it to London or Paris let me know, I have Lots of suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI love Munich,Germany is such a beutiful country..have fun darling.kisses:*
ReplyDeleteThat looks really fun! My husband really loved being there. We are headed to Denmark in July for a couple of weeks. Hopefully Seattle sometime soon too!

I used to live about an hour south of Munich--you MUST MUST MUST take the train (or drive) down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Smack in the middle of the Alps, it's GORGEOUS! There are gorges to walk through, mountains to climb (the Wank only takes about 2 hours to hike up, and you can cable-car back down if you're tired--this mountain will also give you the BEST views of the bigger mountains), and fun events with people wearing traditional clothing to attend.
ReplyDeleteVisit my Flickr photos from when I lived in Garmisch, and hit me up if you have any questions! http://www.flickr.com/photos/eef-ink/sets/72157620916748549/

I went to Munich a few years ago and really enjoyed the Hofbrauhaus, great beer and food. We sat outside, so awesome. Linderhof was the Palace we visited and it was gorgeous. We also spent a few days exploring around Oberammergau which was great. But there is tons to do!
ReplyDeleteso exciting! i haven't been to munich specifically but you're going to have a ball! what is eric going to be doing with "work" while you're there?
ReplyDeleteHe works in Finance, and the company he works for has business partners out there that he needs to work with :)
DeleteThat sounds so exciting! You guys are going to have sooo much fun!
ReplyDeletethat's awesome. i am actually from the south of Germany but thinking about it now, i guess i have seen less places here in my home country in my entire life than i have seen while living abroad in the US for only one year.
ReplyDeletemunich is an amazing city to start with and explore.
other cities that are well worth a visit in the south are Stuttgart, Heidelberg, Freiburg (Black Forest), Nuremberg, Garmisch-Partenkirch, Konstanz/Lindau or any place at the Lake of Constance which is right at the border to Austria and Switzerland...
must-visits in Germany are also of course Berlin and Hamburg. they also say that Dresden and Rothenburg ob der Tauber are pretty neat but i have never been there.
oh and by the way, there will be the spring festival in Stuttgart at the end of next month (april 20th-may 12th). it is similar to the oktoberfest in munich - don't tell anyone in munich that i just campared these two ;)
Fantastic! We are dreaming of a Europe trip one of these days! Can't wait to hear all about it and see all your pics!
ReplyDeleteone more thing... you could check out Alex's blog www.ifsandsandbutts.com

ReplyDeletethis is going to be so exciting! I'm so happy for you!
ReplyDeletelooking forward to see all the beautiful photos I'm sure you'll be posting :)
Oh my word! How exciting! I am looking forward to seeing your photos and hearing of your adventures!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness...so amazing! your first trip to europe will be so memorable. my sister lives in germany and i have been to berlin, potsdam, and dresden. i would recommend taking a few trips by yourself during the week while your hubby works. i had never traveled alone before but went to europe for a month by myself this past fall and it was amazing! the best part of europe is that it is soo inexpensive to travel via train or plane. have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been there before! I had a layover on my way to Italy, and I was there for a day. Where the clock and bell tower is, there are little statues of people that rotate (like a coo coo clock would do)every day at 5 p.m. I believe. Double check the time to be safe.
ReplyDeleteAnywho, if you want a great view of it and some coffee and pastries, there is a darling little place right across from the clock on one of the top floors (sort of where it looks like this picture is being taken from). There is a spot in that restaurant that faces the clock and has huge windows to look out over the city. Go. There.

Hey I Just did my first post about Munich
ReplyDeleteYou should really take a look at it!! http://ask-julia.blogspot.de/
Oh and if you need someone to show you around. I'd love to.
♥♥♥ Liebe Grüße aus München ♥♥♥
When I went to Europe for 3 weeks, I thought I had to pack my entire closet.
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not...I didn't! Having a suitcase that's 800 pounds can be a major drag when you're traveling, especially when you're abroad! As it happened, my suitcase got lost in Madrid for an entire week and if the airlines hadn't (finally) found it, I would have come home with a totally empty closet. Seriously. Don't over-pack. Bring your favorite things, wash, re-wear, and spend your time adventuring, not doing laundry and dragging your suitcase around.
Can't wait to see pictures! x
Lovely pictures! Have a wonderful time exploring castles, seems like it would be a princess' dream! :)

I've been to that castle before. But I refused to get out of the car and tour the inside because I was too tired and grumpy. My dad had to stay in the car with me. I was 7 years old.
ReplyDeletewow, so jealous TJ, what an awesome trip this will be. look forward to your photos!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting!! Lucky you!

ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Congrats on the new traveling adventure. I have always wanted to go to Munich, it is at the top of my travel list. Excited to see where you go and what you do! -Heidi
ReplyDeleteI can give you the goods on Sweden if you head that way. If I were you I would defiantly do a day trip to Salzburg. I've always wanted to go to the original Von Trapp home and sight see. I love the sound of music. What an amazing opportunity you guys have. your passport stamped for the first time is one of the most thrilling experiences.:)
ReplyDeleteYou and husband have the coolest life! Have so much fun!!
ReplyDelete*wiggles fingers* OKAY. This is going to be a beast of a comment. I've backpacked all over Europe so I know where yo ushould go! The greatest thing about Europe is that you can literally take a day trip anywhere! If you and Eric have a weekend free, make it down to Basel, Switzerland! My favorite city in the word. But since you're closer to Zurich, you could go there too! I would also recommend going to Berlin, it's amazing. ALSO you are close to Prague which is amazing too. Basically, if you want to travel around the countries, I recommend getting a Eurorail pass. That way your train tickets will be much cheaper. If you're trying to do just Germany, I would just buy the regional tickets straight from the station. Honestly, don't be afraid to leave the city while Eric is at work! Don't forget get to go to Austria, you're so close! Okay. Phew. Tis' all. HAVE FUN! Europe is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat is going to be such an awesome trip! Those pictures of it look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow amazing!! My boyfriend and I spontaneously booked a trip to Europe... NEXT WEEK! We could not be more excited to spend a week split between Paris and Rome. Can't imagine your excitement for a few weeks in Munich!!!!! Have an amazing time girl!
ReplyDeleteSo stinkin' exciting! It's so great that you'll be in Europe for that long because it's nearly impossible to see all of the good stuff within a week or so. Hope you guys make it to London, Paris, and Venice! My top three favorite spots in all of Europe. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou should visit Spain! I am partial since I lived there for a year, but the culture is amazing!! If you're looking for cheap airline tickets to go to other countries for a weekend getaway, check out ryanair.com or easyjet.com. If you really do decide to visit Spain let me know! I've traveled all around so I have a TON of great pointers for you. My best tip of advice is to bring a good camera and good, yet stylish walking shoes and explore, explore, explore!!

I've visited the castle pictured when I visited Germany. If you can, definitely go and visit! You learn so many interesting things and it's definitely worth it. Also, we went to a museum about medieval torture devices and it was oddly awesome. Make sure to get some schnitzel and have an amazing trip! Travelling is so much fun!

I've been all over Europe. Germany and Switzerland were my favorites. Neuschwantein Castle you have featured in the second picture is of course awesome!!!!! But, if I were you I would find this great series of books that someone has just released and they are travel guides written by locals so that you are able to experience the "inside" attractions so to speak. Ya know more of the everyday places that make a country, city or town great rather than the tourist attractions. I wish we had done soemthing more like this. We stayed pretty touristy, which I wouldn't recommend if you can help it. Happy Week,

ReplyDeleteOMG I am so excited for you! I can't wait to see allll of your photos :) Have so much fun!
ReplyDeleteOh enjoy! Be prepared to walk, and walk and walk! I went on a walking tour of the city and by the end of it, I was so tired that I just grabbed some lunch, sat down by a fountain - where a lot of kids played - and watched as a little girl pulled down her pants and peed right in front of me! haha
ReplyDeletePS: Make sure to watch the show at the Marienplatz and to eat at the Viktualienmarkt!
you should check our expolore.dream.discover blog. She lives in Amsterdam and travels all the time. Also, Aspiring Kennedy lives abroad and has a section for travel tips and places to visit/eat for all the cities shes been to!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness. how exciting!! can we start the countdown!? sadly europe isn't my forte so i have no advice to offer, but i'm sure you will have no trouble finding things to do. i mean, walking around alone is even an adventure!!
ReplyDeletemylettchronicals
Yes! Let's please start a countdown! 39 more days!!!!!!
DeleteSo much fun!! That is seriously so exciting!
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos! xo
ReplyDeleteThe castle in the picture is close to Fussen - and a not-so-long drive from Munich. It is definitely worth the drive - and looks like what Disney had in mind when they created the Magic Kingdom. It could be great for a weekend trip.
ReplyDeleteIn Munich, you should check out the Hirschgarten beer-garden - it's a great place to hang out in the afternoon. Sit in the public tables (not the restaurant) and dig into all the different foods in the stalls. Don't miss out on their huge pretzel.
oh no way! I AM GOING TO MUNICH! i am flying to germany to film in may... it's gonna be so fun! can't wait to hear what you do there, when you blog about it - i'll have to get some tips!
ReplyDeleteHej, be sure to eat some Leberkas at the Viktualienmarkt. I'm not from Munich but the north of Germany, Hamburg. So if you plan a roadtrip and visiting some more spots let me know. I'll be glad to help you out.
ReplyDeleteAnd, there's a huge difference between germany and other people: we walk a lot and don't use our cars that often if it isn't neccessary.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh what's a pity... I have just moved back to Poland - I was living in beautiful village 1 h from Munich! I recommend you to visit: Benediktbeuern :)
ReplyDelete
