BEST WAYS TO WASTE YOUR TIME


After yesterday's post I realized that so many of you have never watched or heard (gasp!) of Downton Abbey before. And it dawned on me, what are other of my favorite things that you may be missing out on. So I compiled a short list of television shows that I could spend hours in a day watching if I could. So in no particular order ...

1. Big Bang Theory. Many of you commented on this show in the last post. Trust me, I'm all on board the Penny, Leonard train. This is one show I could re-watch over and over again. In fact, I may have seen every episode at least 4 times. Bazinga.
2. Catfish: The TV Show. This MTV phenomena is my guilty pleasure. It's one of those train-wrecks that you can't look away from as people meet their online loves in person for the first time. Needless to say, men pretending to be women, women pretending to be transgender, the list goes on. If you're all for suspense and awkward moments this show is right up your alley.
3. Modern Family. This is one show the mister and I refuse to ever miss. Phil and Cameron are by far our favorite characters. But they all hold a special place in our hearts.
4. The Vampire Diaries. This show. All I can say is, WHY Elena. Team Stefan all the way!!
5. Downton Abbey. I don't typically go for masterpiece theatre but during first season this show just started getting so much hype I thought, why not? I watched the first episode and thought it was nothing special. Come the second episode I was hooked. And Sunday's episode? Don't even get me started, bawling! Trust me on this one, watch it.
6. Face Off. I'm not sure how Eric and I found this show but I'm glad we did. It's like Project Runway but for special-effects make-up. It's incredible the things that they can come up with.

  1. Suits! Oh my goodness, that show, Harvey Specter, gets me every time. It's one of those shows you can watch an episode again and still feel like you're watching it for the first time. And gah, I need to start watching modern family :)

  5. I love the Big Bang Theory and I'm obsessed with Downton! I watched it when only the first season was out on netflix and been hooked ever since.
    I also love watching reruns of How I Met Your Mother and Parks and Rec. :)

  6. I've never heard of number 2,4 and 6 - however living in Ireland we're ahead of the US with Downtown series....BUT I dont watch it!!!

  8. so sad downton abbey is done. can't wait for the new season. and i've read a spoiler and i hate it. good thing i didn't read nothing but the title of it.
    don't know if it's your thing but you could try Parenthood, the series ended this year though, there are 4 seasons.
    or for a comedy Don't trust the bitch in apartment 23, known shortly for Apartment 23.

  27. Ok I think Big Bang is so hilarious! I don't really watch television so i don't see it or Modern Family often but when I do watch I laugh. My girlfriend Sidra got me watching Vampire Diaries and though it is dumb and Jason hates it I can never really turn it off. So when my Netflix updates with a new season that sucks way my entire life for a day. Merlin does this too!

  40. I am an obsessive TV watcher; my husband and I can easily start and finish a premiere season of a new show in a weekend because we're that into it. (Probably not a healthy habit, but oh well). I LOVE Modern Family and Mad Men (Current on-air shows), but my favorite thing is to discover "new" old shows that have been on for a few seasons first. I have to know what happened in the beginning :)

  42. Bones! Every new episode, rerun...I stop to watch it. Heck, they're running reruns as I type this comment, and yes, I am watching them. LOL

    I also watch New Girl, Raising Hope, TrueBlood, Game of Thones, House reruns, Hell's Kitchen/Kitchen Nightmares, Mythbusters.

    ....Yeah I watch a lot of TV. ;)

  44. Oh gosh. I'm just waiting for my shows to come back! And then...half of them are ending for good. Sad. Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Walking Dead...Game of Thrones, Homeland. And The Newsroom.

    But I love Modern Family and Downton! Is it horrible that I haven't watched the 3rd season yet???

  49. We actually don't have a television. So we download anythning we watch and our favorite things are usually from the BBC or "I TV," not to be confused with "i" as in the Apple products. I TV is the BBC's competitor and Downton is aired through I TV not BBC, ya know in case you wanted to know that?? :)

    So, you mentioned that you were not normally a huge Masterpiece fan...we totally are so here are some suggestions if you ever want to view something with incredible acting and great story lines.

    1. Lark Rise to Candleford.
    2. The Foresyte Saga.
    3. Upstairs, Downstairs. (There is an old version and new. We've watched both. The new version ran for two seasons as it was playing against Downton and couldn't keep up. But, it has a similar feel to Downton. We liked it.)
    4. Little Dorrit
    5. The Paradise...This show is the bomb. I love it so much. It has such a unique premise. It's about the man who built the first indoor department store. It's awesome!!!!

  53. love TBBT but my favourite is Modern Family! we were watching the show the other day and the baby was sleeping, the husband laughed so loud that he woke him up and he said "I'm sorry but it was worth it" hahaha...of course it was Cameron's fault

  56. Oh man, my bff is a make up artist and she's going to flip when I tell her about the Faceoff show! I started watching The West Wing on Netflix and I'm addicted to The Golden Girls and Designing Women. The Big Bang Theory is hysterical!!

  57. Our favorite show to watch as a family is 'Little House on the Prairie'. I get it from the library and we all love watching it together. There is not a show on T.V. that I am comfortable watching with my kids. Once Upon a time is pretty good, but even so, there are some curse words and themes I'd rather not have them view.

    LHOTP is an oldie but a goodie, the story lines are as relevant today as they were when the show took place in the mid 1800's.

  60. Were into crime dramas here. Mentalist, Good Wife, Suits (obvs, Harvey is so hot). But I have this not-so-secret guilty pleasure that is trashy reality television. If I have access to satellite tv, its all Kardashians, Dr 90210, Giuliana and Bill just to name a few.

    The very best is Downton, though. And Homeland. LOVE Homeland.

  62. I had NO idea Catfish was a show! I saw the movie and thought it was weird, this must be a train-wreck. I LOVE Modern Family. Ty Burrell gets me everytime, especially with his "phil-osophies" I die. Revenge is my newest guilty pleasure.

  77. Oh man, there's no longer a show I follow religiously, which sucks. I just don't have the discipline anymore. But my boy and I rewatched seasons 1-4 of Dawson's Creek recently on DVD (bwahahah), and I'll watch Friends always, either on TV or DVD...and old school Simpsons. Ooh! And Friday Night Lights. I've heard of everything you featured here, but I actually don't have a TV, so I don't watch a lot of things. :) However, in the past, when I've been at hotels or at other's homes, I'll catch up on certain things. I am a "True Blood" fan, admittedly, and would like to watch "The Vampire Diaries" to compare the two. And I love "Face-Off"! I love anything that involves design and creativity, so this is one of my favorite to kick back and relax to when there is a marathon.

Shows I adore & completely love to death(note that many of these have been cancelled but I love rewatching old shows): Gilmore Girls - I have seen every episode a gazillion times and I'll be sure to watch them a gazillion more. Friday Night Lights - Possibly one of the best shows ever made. Pushing Daisies. Samantha Who?. Revenge. Harper's Island - Mini murder tv mystery show.

    And I just started watching Drop Dead Diva and it is becoming a new favorite.
