DATE NIGHT IDEAS

Another Monday, and another weekend that flies by. But do you use that short time to your full advantage? Every time Friday rolls around in the Taylor household the mister and I get so excited that we finally get to spend all of our time together. But then that overshadowing, dreaded conversation happens. "What do you want to do tonight?" "I don't know what do you want to do?" And back and forth that goes. Next thing you know you're both eating a late night bowl of cereal watching re-runs of Battlestar Galactica (nerd alert over here). A night in is never a bad thing. Sometimes you both need that down time to just snuggle and let your brains shut off. But what about those nights that you want to shake things up a bit?
Here are three simple tips for your next date night!

Eat out at a new restaurant
While we may all have our regular favorites, changing up our environments and eating something new can be just the thing to bring about excitement. With a new restaurant you both get the chance to order something different. Get extra plates, share each others meals. There is just something intimate about sharing and exploring together. And don't skip out on dessert!! Sometimes you just got to splurge a little ::winks::

Take a walk
With the chilly weather in full forth, it can be easy for us to make excuses to stay inside. But nothing is better than some fresh air and holding hands with the one you love. Take the opportunity to bundle up and take a walk. The mister and I love walking around the local neighborhoods and picking out houses that we like and daydream about our future together.

Go to the movies
This might be a "duh" thing, but hear me out. Yes, going to the movies can always be fun. But sometimes we have to take a bullet. We go and see the gory, action films that he loves. He sits through our romantic comedies that he says he doesn't like (but secretly does). How about finding common ground. Look for those theaters playing independent films or see a movie that you both would typically look over. Seeing something new can spark new conversation and leave you talking about it the rest of the night. Up next on our list: Argo.

What are your tips for date night? I would love to hear some new ideas!!

  1. With our 5 year anniversary coming up, we might just do all of these. I know for sure a movie will be involved and it may or may not be the last Twilight movie! : )

  2. Ooh you have to try the youtube date night my friend camille put together! All popular on pinterest. http://fridaywereinlove.blogspot.com/2012/02/youtube-video-date-aka-25-hours-of-free.html?m=1

  3. One thing we find ourselves doing is a "mini" vacation, but really just getting out of town to explore surrounding areas. Then we look at houses and do fun "if ever" planning:) love the ideas TJ! We have been slackers at our house and need to pick up the pace

  4. These are great. Honestly, my favourite thing to do is just wander around a bookstore and/or walmart and/or a comic book store... just everyday places. Maybe go for a coffee. Look at silly things you don't when you're in a hurry. That kind of thing. It's nice :)

  5. I love coming up with date night ideas! Here are a few:

    go bowling

have a country themed night - for example, cook a french meal, listen to french music, drink french wine, watch a french movie, then french kiss? :)

go to a drive in movie

build a fort in your living room and have a slumber party

have a day date instead of a night date - go for a hike, have a picnic, go for a bike ride,

    go for a long drive

    go to a comedy/improv show

play board game or card games

have you guys been to snoqualmie falls? I know it's spendy, but my husband took me to Salish Lodge & Spa for my birthday a couple years ago and it was SO incredible and romantic - I highly recommend it! http://www.salishlodge.com/

Have fun :) And p.s. Argo is INCREDIBLE! You guys will both love it.

  6. I love all of these ideas!! My husband texted me early this morning after we both had left for work and told me he wants a date night tonight! I'm so very excited because while we always spend time together, we don't always do something "special" or designated as a "date night." I think just calling something a "date night" makes any ordinary activity extra special.

  7. These are all such cute ideas! I always love picnics, regardless of the season. As long as it isn't raining or snowing aha. Or just going to a cafe and having a warm drink is nice too!

  8. I feel the same way! I love the weekends {and look forward to spending time with by boyfriend all week}, but then we can't think of anything super creative to do! We never go out to the movies, but I think we might have to for fun sometime - Argo looks realy good!

  9. Okay, ZI'll be the first to admit that we blew through Battlestar Galactica the first time... it was glorious. Ahem. But anyway. My hubster and I love just going downtown and peoplewatching, or walking on the beach, taking weekend trips to random places (sometimes even just day trips).
The sky's the limit. We just have to come up with the itineraries beforehand, or else we'll end up blowing through another TV series. ;)

  10. M and I like to try new restaurants

  11. I totally agree with a new restaurant thing. One of our favorite things to do is find the best burger in Dallas! We make it a couple date too!

  14. You have me craving another night out! We always try to take little dates... but we usually try new restaurants... we need to see more movies and especially take more walks!

    ReplyDelete
  15. We love to try and make a new recipe! We'll kind of naturally designate who's the sous chef just helping and who is doing the major work. But it always is fun!

  16. Our go-to date night is tacos and a living room slumber party with a movie through Amazon or Netflix. Our 1 year anniversary is next Monday though, so we gotta think of something great. Thanks for the ideas.

  17. This is a great post with good ideas...i think it's really easy to fall into a rut and run out of fun ideas for date nights! And I won't spoil anything, but my boyfriend and I saw Argo a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it!!! I hope y'all enjoy it too!

  18. We definitely do that same back-and-forth questioning thing. :) I thinking eating out is my favorite thing to do when all else fails!

  19. Check the local papers for events!! A lot of local shops or communities will post festivals, showings, or any other fun events going on!!

  22. Love the suggestion of taking a walk. It's such a good way to spend quality time together without any distractions.

    ReplyDelete
  23. going for walks is one of my husband and i's favorite activities! such a great "getaway" where we can just talk and be together. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. We also love going on walks--to make it more interesting, we'll bring our camera along with us and have a themed photo walk where we'll have to take pictures around a theme, like all the colors of the rainbow or things in groups of 3. The best part? It's free :) Plus we get shots of those moments together.

Another thing we like doing is hitting up bookstores together, or an author comes into town, we'll go to that.

  25. When Mr. M is home, we try to get out for one, baby-free date night a week. We typically do dinner (or a shared appetizer) and a movie. We really, really love the movies (we even met at a movie theater), so it's never boring, but here are a couple few other fun ideas (all things we've done):

    - Build each other a stuffed animal at Build-A-Bear
    - Paint pottery at Color Me Mine, or a similar spot
    - Go to an arcade. Pacman! Ski-ball! Pinball! Pizza! Lazer tag! So much fun ... Especially with another couple

Don't forget about the weekday discounted movies!! There's usually a smaller theatre that sells tickets at a discounted price (ours is on Tuesdays for only $5 all day!!).

We've also had fun at comedy shows and participating in improv.
