TO ALL YOU PHOTO JUNKIES...

image via

Calling all photo junkies, photographers, or just anyone that has a camera!!! After 7 good years my Nikon D50 finally bit the dust yesterday and I am currently on the prowl for a newer and better one. Something that can go well with all of my Nikon lenses I have collected throughout the years. Preferably one that is good for taking portraits and landscape. And if you know any good deals or good web sites to order from, that will be 50 points for Gryffindor... apparently I've been watching a little too much HP over here.

Leave any camera suggestions below!!
Fingers crossed I have a new one in my lap by the end of the weekend!

  3. Hmmm... Well, I recently said goodbye to my Nikon D5000. That baby was just way to heavy for me. What I got instead was a Panasonic Lumix GF3. It is a compact camera, really light weight, but it gives you the same if not better quality photos as compared to a dslr cameras. It gives you control over ISO, Apperture, Speed, everything that you get from a dslr camera only it is lightweight. And best thing is, you can use Nikon and Canon lenses with it! The photos it takes are really vibrant and colorful, which leaves you with little or barely any editing left to do. =) Good luck with camera hunting! Let us know what you decide to get.

  6. I am a Nikon gal too. I would recommend either the Nikon D90 or the Nikon D7000. They are similar cameras but the D7000 is a little bit nicer + has more capabilities than the D90. The D90 is going to be the cheaper option - it is an older model. They both should still be compatible with the lenses you used on your D50.

If you wanted to go full frame - like the D300/D700/D3 you will need to buy certain lenses. These are the cameras the pro's use.

    Hopefully this helped! Good Luck!

    you had to be there

  8. We have the same camera! Woot woot! And I so desperately want to replace mine.

I found a fantastic site for comparing different models, it will really help you when it comes to making a decision on which one to get.

Personally, I want to go to a full frame camera, and have been told that Nikon plans to release its first full frame camera under $2000 in the next few weeks. But it all depends on how seriously you want to get into photography, I heard that the D7000 is ahhh-mazing.

  9. Good luck hunting! I'm sorry to hear your camera's sad passing. If you're a Nikon girl, I heard a new one is coming out! I forget what its called... Nikon D600?

Have a great weekend! & Now I have a hankering for a HP marathon.

  10. TJ, I just bought the Canon 5D mark II and am in love with it! I highly recommend this camera to anyone! And if you're a Nikon kinda girl, then the Nikon version is the Nikon D7000, and I hear it is amazing as well. The only leg up on the canon is the HD video capability. So, depending on what you're looking for, maybe one of those two will interest you. Hope this helps girl :)

  11. Mee! However I've got a old Nikon, which is good enough for me and probably not for you. Sorry not much of help. Oh yeah, thanks for your comment but that girl wasn't me, it was my sister- I was just behind the camera being a wonderful photographer ;-)

  16. Have fun shopping for cameras! My husband and I own a Canon EOS Rebel, and we love it! It's all about the lenses, really. :)

  17. In May, I got a Cannon EOS Rebel T2i and I absolutely love it. It is an amazing camera. You can find deals at stores like Sam's Club. They have packages that include the camera body, an every day lens, a telephoto lens, a memory card, a camera strap, and a camera case.

  18. shootie... my Nikon D40 is in my closet gathering dust as we speak! I guess I should be using that instead of my iPhone because I am always apologizing on my blog how blurry and grainy my pics are. Yikes! Thanks for reminding me that I have a great camera! I hope you find what you are looking for! I received mine from my parents so I haven't really had the opportunity to put on my bargain glasses and search for great deals. Best of luck!

    Have a fabulous weekend!

  25. Well I shoot Canon so I'm not much help there, but as far as cameras that are good for portraits and landscapes I would the lens makes a bigger difference than the body. Some great portrait lenses are the 50mm f/1.8 (http://goo.gl/GmvOo) (f/1.4 or 1.2 of you can afford them), and the 85mm f/1.8 (http://goo.gl/kEXUO).
I don't shoot landscapes much so I can't recommend great lenses there but something wider like and 24mm would probably be best.

Ok so I did a little looking on the Nikon website comparing some cameras and it kind of depends on what is important to you. Is fps (frames per second) important? Do you need to fire off a handful of shots pretty quickly? This is good for photographing children because they are always on the move, as well as for sports/action shots.

If you want, feel free to email me and I can talk more detail about what camera would be best for your needs (if you give me an idea of how you use it). My email is annastasiamrich{at}gmail{dot}com
As far as buying I recommend Amazon, and if you or your husband are still in school you can get an Amazon Prime account for free and that should get you free 2 day shipping on the camera if you buy it from the right seller. (It should say Prime! on the product page).

    Good luck!
    Good Luck!

  26. I don't know the best place to get one... because I'm in Canada... but I love my Nikon D90. It's a fantastic camera... high amateur/not at the pro mark, but fantastic.

  27. it was such an honor for you to stop by my blog today :)
i haven't used it a ton on my blog yet, but i moved from a nikon d60 to a nikon d7000. another really great add is the 50mm f 1.4 lens. the 1.8 is pretty good, too. that lens is super great if you're really into lots of detail and focus on certain subjects.
    hope that helps!

  28. The D90 is a dream. That's what I shoot with, and it was right between the line of cameras that are ridiculously expensive and affordable. I really like it.

You'll have to order it, but they'll have a huge selection and be able to help you over the phone. Good luck!! Sorry to hear you camera broke, but at least you get to upgrade!! Happy weekend!!

  33. I'm not a Nikon user so can't recommend any camera bodies and I'm sure the cost of adapters would be somewhat hefty if you make a switch! B&H or ebay is a good place to look at!

  34. I wish you luck in finding the perfect camera! I use Canon, so I can't recommend any good ones :(

  40. we bought a lens for me from an online seller called Adorama. I think it was through ebay? They sell refurbished cameras and lenses. My lens looked brand new and works great. Camera parts if kept up can last a very long time and maintain really good condition. It was at least half the price which was great for our med school budget :)

  41. can't help you with that, but i wish you all the luck on finding a new one!

  42. i loooooove my nikon d700. but it's a pricey piece...i'd highly recommend getting a d90 or above so you have more lens interchangeability! let me know if you want to know more and i can get all nerdy for you. : ) adorama is a good place to order used models from, and they have a rating system so you know the quality of what you're buying. oh! and ken rockwell has the most amazing reviews, if you haven't already spent some time on his site. i consult him before buying anything. : ) xo!!

  43. We are cannon folk so I'm not much help. I would defiantly go B&H Photo. We get most all of our stuff from there and have been very happy:)
