birthday ideas

okay, i know some of you are a little disappointed that you are not finding an awkward and awesome thursday's post up today. but my mind has been consumed with everything birthdays. and poor mr. taylor, i'm putting all this stress on him to figure out the perfect way to celebrate the big 2-4.
so i thought maybe we could help a mister out.

calling all utah girls, party planners, or any creative minds!

what are some fun, light hearted and relatively inexpensive ways to celebrate a girls golden/star birthday?
all i know is i want one of these giant round balloons to make an appearance.
along with some twinkle lights, a handmade fort and lots, and LOTS of desserts.
is that too much to ask? ::winks::

  1. That picture is adorable and now I want to celebrate my birthday too! If you were in Fiji, I'm sure someone would have made you a feast cooked in the ground, an earth oven sort of concept. So yummy!

  5. He could design a fun birthday scavenger hunt of sorts. Each clue can have something to do with special things between you both or movies, etc. Could be a really fun an inexpensive way to have a super memorable b-day!!

  6. For my birthday this year I had to keep it low-key since I'm getting married this summer, so I went to the city and went shopping with my best friend! Lunched at a nice place, tried on pretty dresses I couldn't afford, and then that night went to a nice dinner with my family and opened presents. It was wonderful, and relaxing!!

  7. Your golden birthday is your 24th too?! Mine was and it was so much fun!! I kept it low key though and had a fun day with my friends that included lunch, cocktails, and a trip to the salon. Then my bf took me to a really nice dinner and we went out for drinks after. I'm sure the mister will think of something :)

  8. are you wanting to have a party or keep it just you and hubs? twinkle lights and a homemade fort mixed with lots of desserts could definitely go either way.... but sounds more quality husband/wife time to me. maybe shop and lunch with your girlfriends during the day. or even get a group and go out to your favorite restaurant. then come home, just you and hubs and enjoy a quiet night under a twinkle tent with loads of treats! :)

  12. um if you go to disneyland on your birthday it's free! hee hee something to think about! me and my husb LOVE painting nights, you don't have to be an artist, and it is something different. its super super fun and low-key {ahem, inexpensive}. michael's has everything, and you can buy canvases in two's. and all you need are the primary colors...

paint each other birthday cakes, or cupcakes, or each other. it's so much fun!

no matter what you do, it will be a great birthday. i didn't even realize my golden birthday when i had it- so celebrate for the both of us!

  15. LOVE those balloons! I've always wanted to have a really beautiful outdoor potluck party with all my closest friends. And pie - lots of pie.

I'd never do something to this scale, but this image is ALWAYS in the back of my mind when I think about parties:

  17. Dessert sound fantastic! We like to play this game here in Colorado, where you pair up with someone and make a meal with one person speaking, (with their arms behind their back) and the other person wraps their arms around his partner and makes the meal for that person. Altogether the two people look as one but it's really histarical to watch. lol

  20. For a super cool party, I think lighting is the biggest single factor. Like you said, twinkle lights ... and candles in all kinds of cool containers ... Christmas lights behind sheets on the wall ... Lights make all the difference for me.

  21. Color me mine (in foothill) is SO fun and can be the best date! Or because you're turning 24..could do a 2 dozen party/date where everything has to come in 2 dozen..

Happy Bday month! My husbands is this month too..trying to plan something fun for his 25th!

  22. I made a fort for V-day for the hubs.. not an easy task but it's so much fun, and you'll never wanna take it down. We lived in it for like a week! And desserts, yes you should get to have lots of desserts for the birthday. Yum.

  24. You can rent huge tents for pretty cheap and just set it up at the park! Or you can use 2x4's as posts and make a banner or lights under them and just get some rectangle table and decorate them all whimsical under the lights. It would be so gorgeous.

My idea is go to a huge park, like Draper Park and set up stations (probably just decorated different tables) and then have everyone meet at one station for your favorite outdoor meal.. like BBQ then move to another for your favorite side dish and then to your fav. dessert. So it's like a progressive dinner where you do everything TJ!

  29. You're too sweet. Thank you :) How about some chocolate/cheese/caramel fondu! And it could be potluck style and everyone can bring something, eg. pretzels, angel food cake, all types of fruit etc. Good luck with plans!

  30. Ooh I think you should just stick with what you have! Those balloons and twinkly lights sound perfect!

  32. not too much at all ;) i absolutely adore the idea of having an all dessert party!!! create a pretty little dessert buffet - incorporate that gorgeous giant round balloon, some diy decor... throw up those twinklers! build those forts...all this {except maybe the desserts} would be pretty inexpensive and definitely something to remember ;) hmmm...you have perhaps inspired me to create a little inspiration board for you! when is your actual birthday??? XO brynn

my big 24 is this year too!!! it's at the end of the year, but i'm already planning something very girly, sweet and memorable :)
thinking pastels, heels, dessert, glitter and a lot of giggling lol.

  38. Love this pic :) and LOVE the idea of huge balloons! can't wait to see what you come up with!

  39. Order 24 of everything. Balloons, cupcakes, fake party mustaches. You need to have fake party mustaches. That is a requirement for 24th birthdays I hear. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  40. oh how exciting TJ!!! it's just around the corner :) And your ideas all sound fabulous! you could maybe make the fort outside (if the weather is good) and involve a picnic...and some candles in mason jars...and some music playing on your ipod (or car radio) to slow dance too :) Okay, that's it. I want to celebrate my birthday again. We can pretend that unbirthdays are just as cool as golden birthdays right?? ;)

  41. fort outside. table full of dessert. projector screen. 16 candles. (cause let's face it.. molly ringwald is good for any age)

  42. I think a dessert potluck would be really fun. If the weather is nice, a nigh time picnic with blankets and pillows would be a quasi-fort. We used to have movies in the yard with a projector and a white sheet.

    ReplyDelete
  43. oooooh wouldn't that be sweet, big twinkling lights, one or more of those balloons....oh i hope you can make it happen, or he can make it happen for you! a girl can dream though....xo you're gonna have a great golden bday anyway!
