the update

remember when i made THIS?

well, this post is more for me than for you. i see it as a little check-up, seeing as how the new year is coming faster than i ever imagined. so let's take a look through my twelve before twelve, one by one.

Goals to Accomplish by 2012:
(in no particular order)
1. find a steady job (MUCHO important)
although i haven't found a grown up job quite yet, i'm not too discouraged. i have had so much fun delving head first in to this here blog. not only has it become my full blown obsession, but i try to look at it through a business perspective as well.
oh, and some good news: i was offered a position to work at the Sundance Film Festival this coming year. i will be in charge of all the little celebrities and producers, film makers, etc. getting them set up, telling them where to go, and so forth. i see it as a mini trial of what my future profession will be like. yazzah! plus, i have always dreamed of going to the SFF and now that i'll be behind the scenes, it will be that much better!

2. reach 500 followers on this here bloggy. {check}
first off, thank you so much to all my faithful blogging readers. i have just adored getting to know you all and reading all your lovely comments each and every day. second, hello new ones. i hope to get to know all of you more. third, i have now reached over 500 followers and could not be more ecstatic. seeing as there is still a few more weeks left until the new year i'm going to up my chances (fingers crossed) and reach for 600. i say always aim high! p.s. once we hit 550 i'm going to do another q&a session ;)

3. make a financial plan (how much money we will spend on groceries a month, for date nights, leisure time, etc.) also very important! {check}
we haven't really made a set plan, but we really have been diligent with how we spend our money, what we allow ourselves to buy at the grocery store, looking up tons of coupons, etc. and now that the temperature has been going down, date nights have been cuddling up on the couch next to the fire,and watching tons of movies. free date nights are the best. what's even better is when you put all other distractions aside and just enjoy each others company.

4. get in the habit of reading the scriptures every day. {check}
now this one i just want to give myself a little pat on the back. i have made it a goal to read three chapters from the scriptures each and every day, and have upheld to that goal for over a month now. it has become a nightly routine for the hubs and i. and i love going to bed with those inspirational words fresh in my mind.

5. be a better daughter and sister by calling my family up more often just for the simple ol' chitchat. {check}
even though this may seem so simple it can be quite difficult to remember to call up the family all the time. however, i do believe i have been better at calling my mom with any happy news i receive, any questions i have with cooking (which came in handy during thanksgiving), and any time i feel down in the dumps because she knows just the right words to say. so of course i could always be better, but i have made a great improvement and that's all that matters!

6. finish and mail out all of those thank you letters from our wedding.
i still have yet to finish mailing out thank you cards. why does this task seem to ream impossible in my mind? i see 50 already sealed and ready to go, and yet they sit there on my desk collecting dust. you know what? i'm going to mail as many as my mailbox can fit today. pinky promise!

7. learn 7 new recipes to try out for dinner.
one of my readers was just so sweet and sent me a list of recipes to try out, so thank you secret reader. i haven't learned 7 but i have learned a few. i made a delicious green bean casserole for thanksgiving (which was a big hit). i've made teriyaki chicken (which was a big hit with mr. taylor). i've made chicken curry (which was a big hit with me). three down, 4 more to go. got any simple cooking recipes? send them my way.

8. vacuum once every week (so long dust bunnies, hair clumps, dead spiders and food crumbs that have seemed to accumulate). {check}
i have been such a good domestic housewife as of late. i've done the dishes every day, i've vacuumed, i've cleaned up all the little trails of "junk" the hubby leaves around, and i've made the bed every morning. i've essentially kept the place in acceptable shape that i wouldn't be ashamed to let someone into our humble abode. phew!

9. make at least three good friends here in utah that i regularly meet up with and have girls night out.
i've made a few good friends in church now. yay for me. now i just have to suck it up and ask them out on dates. you know, because that's what couples do. ask other couples out. yep.

10. do one big act of service. possibly something to do with an animal shelter. i LOVE animals. except cats. sorry cat people. but perhaps i can put that fear aside and help all the little animals.
i have yet to do this, but i promise i'll do some sort of act of service once i get back home. i'm thinking playing with the animals at the animal shelter, working a soup kitchen, and donating clothes to the army salvation. yay for the month of service!

11. take more pictures with my nice nikon camera that has decided to collect dust and ween off of the help of my iPhone to do all the work.
bad mrs. taylor! i haven't done this at all. instead my camera sits in my closet, battery dead and making a frowny face at me. another promise coming your way, i suppose. i promise i'll be better at taking better quality pictures over the holiday season. plus, i plan on having some fun in the snow, skiing, so those pictures will definitely be put up!

12. learn something new. anything! i want to step out of my daily routine and try something for the first time. food, sport, crafting. the possibilities are endless.
i'm having a bit of trouble finding something new to try out. again, any suggestions send them my way!!

have you made any twelve before twelve resolutions? it's never too late to start!

  7. Love these goals. Girl...you have accomplished so much! :) You should be proud...I mean I don't vacuum like I should either...it's just so annoying to have to plug in the cord, move the furniture, unplug the cord and put it in a different outlet...I mean that stuff is tiring! ;)

    That is awesome about the Sundance job and the scripture reading! :)

  46. Yes, number 5 is a good one. It is surprsing how quickly life can go by! I love talking to all my loved ones, I just get caught up in other things at times. Great of you to notice that. Love that you're working Sundance! Park City is one of my most favorite places EVER, gosh it's perfect. And you don't need a grown-up job just yet... I found mine and it's secure and will last a lifetime... and that is so scary to know boooohoo. It's why I blog. #12 is always a good one.

  57. Tanya, because I graduated in Strategic Communications with a focus in PR and that sounds like the job I would love to get! I know how you feel. I've done an internship for Shabby Apple, an internship at a creative design firm, and now I work a small very part time job at PlanetGear.com doing their online PR and marketing with their social media site and blog. I want a real full time, grown up paying job soon! We shall be on the hunt together. :)
